The Encouraging Word: 3/2/2006
What Really Matters
I once reviewed my summer “to do” list and calculated that I needed summer to last ‘til Christmas. So, just before I put the “to do” list away and took my kids to water-ski, I wrote this note on my list: “Your ‘to do’ list is longer than your life! What’s really important?”
As you consider “success” and “failure,” be careful to evaluate in light of eternity. You may check every item off your list and succeed... at all the wrong things. Success at the wrong thing is complete failure.
At midlife God showed the apostle Paul that the religious accomplishments of his life were a pile of rubbish! He said, “I count all things as loss in comparison to knowing Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:7-8). He had finished the list of the highest religious order, only to find out that God had different priorities.
What about you? Is your life counting for the things that really matter?
